We’ll cover proportions, shading, facial features, skin tones, and personality expression in different mediums.

Sketching simple head forms from different angles

Drawing Eyes, Nose & Lips

Eye shapes, expressions & reflections
Nose structure & shading techniques
Lips & mouth dynamics: capturing subtle movements

Drawing Ears & Hair

Ear proportions & placement
Hair flow & texture techniques
Light and shadow in hair drawing

WEEK 4:
Understanding Light & Shadows on the Face

How light affects form: strong vs. soft lighting
Creating depth with highlights and shadows
Charcoal & pencil shading exercises

WEEK 5:
Capturing Expression & Emotion

How facial muscles influence expression
Sketching from reference images
Gesture drawing for expressive faces

WEEK 6:
Full Portrait in Pencil or Charcoal

Combining all elements into a finished portrait
Refining edges & adding realistic details
Contrast & final touches

WEEK 7:
Introduction to Painting Portraits (Acrylic, Watercolor)

Choosing the right colors for skin tones
Warm vs. cool undertones in portraits
Painting studies of facial features

WEEK 8:
Painting a Monochrome Portrait

Painting a face using one color + shades (value study)
Brush techniques for smooth transitions
Creating depth in painted portraits

WEEK 9:
Adding Color to Portraits

Mixing realistic skin tones
Layering colors for a natural look
Glazing and blending techniques

WEEK 10:
Final Portrait Project

Students work on a full portrait in your chosen medium
